Candle Burning for the Village Idiot

You know the sticker on the bottom of all candles? You actually have to read that. Consider this our sticker.

Before you light your E&3 candle …

Do you know that if you keep your wick trimmed to ¼ inch it extends the life of your candle? Your E&3 candle conveniently comes trimmed to the appropriate length. If you need to trim it after you first light it, remove any debris from trimming. Warning: please only trim when the candle is fully cooled.

Each time you light your E&3 candle …

Did you know candles are actually smarter than your 2nd grader?

It’s true. Wax has a fantastic memory which means that the first burn is incredibly important. You’re going to need to schedule a few hours in your busy schedule to assure that the wax fully melts across the entire top layer of the candle or you will end up with a “memory ring.” This “memory ring” will lead to a tunnel straight down the center of the candle causing it to never fully melt to the edges.

Also, keep your burning time to less than 4 hours, and be mindful of the size of the flame. If you notice the flame size has increased or the top of the wick has developed a mushroom-shaped top, please safely extinguish the candle. Wick mushrooming can lead to an unstable flame and increased smoke and soot.

When it’s lit, watch out for …

Keep that candle away from moving air. This includes drafts, open windows, and heavily trafficked areas. The movement of air disturbs the flame and can lead to soot forming on the sides of the jar.

Also, obviously keep kids and pets away from fire. Duh.

After you’ve burned your candle …

Your soy candle may have “frosting” on the wax. It’s OK. These whitish patches develop from the use of vegetable waxes. The “frosting” will not affect the scent or burning of the candle. “Frosting” is evidence that we only use natural soy wax with no additives. You’re welcome.
